The end is near! Of winter, that is. With the warm weather teasing us in fits and starts, it’s only natural that you’re beginning to think of your next jacket purchase – preferably one that’s not puffy and isn’t a dread to carry around. Yes, you can wear last spring’s bomber jacket or your mainstay leather moto, but where is the fun in that? Kick it back to your high school years and grab a varsity jacket – it goes with nearly everything and there are some truly eye-catching styles out right now.
If visions of Riverdale High and John Travolta getting all preppy for Sandy in Grease make you cringe, fear not. The varsity has gotten a high-fashion makeover from cool girl brands such as Opening Ceremony, R13 and Rag & Bone. The details are what set this spring staple apart from more snoozy styles with patches, striped collars and pops of bright color (or you can do it my way and grab an all black number). When paired with skin tight jeans or leather pants the look is tomboy chic, but throw it on top of a simple satin slip dress and you have instant effortless elegance. My favorite way to wear it right now is with oversized, slouchy menswear-style pants, although choose a more fitted cut if you go this route.
