The premise behind beloved New York facial shop Heyday is simple – facials should be a regular part of your wellness routine, not something you just splurge on while on vacation. After all, healthy skin is the hallmark to any beauty look no matter what the season. The things that have made the original Heyday in the Flatiron district so successful – low prices, simple treatments and the option to be in and out in a flash with a 30 minute facial or go deeper with 50 or 75 minutes – are also hallmarks of their new Tribeca location, a neighborhood teaming with chic downtown moms.

I being one myself (a downtown mom, that is… your call on whether or not you think I’m chic) I gave it go while also getting some much needed summer skincare tips that anyone can take advantage of. After hours spent in the water surfing with the sun beating down on my face, I was battling hyperpigmentation, dryness and my skin was kind of dull. Just 50 minutes in the chair with my Heyday aesthetician brought a radiance back to my skin I haven’t seen in months! Here are the five steps and the products you need to getting your glow on:

Step 1: Cleanse
While you want to remove all makeup and debris from the day, you should also be conscious not to dry out your skin with abrasive cleanser. Starting off with a cleansing oil such as One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil helps helps restore the skin’s moisture and pH balance while also removing impurities. If you feel you need a bit of an extra rinse, Naturopathica Aloe Cleansing Gel is hydrating, all natural and refreshing.

Step 2: Brighten
To remove dark spots you need a strong exfoliate such as Naturopathica’s Sweet Cherry Brightening Enzyme Peel that helps brighten and smooth sun-damaged skin, which (bonus!) smells like heaven. Simply apply a thin layer to clean skin, leave on for 3-5 minutes then rinse well. Since this is so gentle you can do this 1-2 per week. A lightening serum such as Image Skincare’s Iluma applied daily will also help even out skin over time.

Step 3: Hydrate
The thing about peels and lightening products is that they can quickly dry out your skin so you have to counterbalance that with an hydrating agent such as SkinCeuticals Hydrating B% Gel which restores and binds moisture to the skin. Just apply a few drops to clean skin before you apply moisturizer or sunscreen. This is not a necessary step but I like to follow that up with SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic which reduces fine lines and improves firmness.

Step 4: Protect
Finding a moisturizer that doesn’t feel heavy on your skin while also truly protecting you from harmful UVA/UVB rays was a quest for me until Heyday turned me on to Image Skincare’s Prevention+ 50 SPF Daily Ultimate Protection Moisturizer. I apply first thing in the morning and it survives even a full day at the beach. The secret? It contains transparent zinc oxide which is the ultimate protection against environmental exposures.

Step 5: Moisturize & Prevent
Once the day is complete, it’s time to nourish your skin while you sleep. Heyday once again turned me on to a product I now can’t live without – Naturopathica’s Argan and Retinol Wrinkle Repair Night Cream. It reduces the appearance of fine lines, hydrates and brightens. I then finish off with Skinceuticals Eye Cream which is lightweight enough to also wear during the day, plus it reduces puffiness and dark circles – a mom’s dream come true!
